Chapter 135 - 135: Young Master Huo’s Face Slapping
Upon hearing Qi Shaoze’s words, Chu Yu felt uneasy. He was sure Qi Shaoze had a plan to harm Huo Zong when he dared to bring up this topic with such confidence. He couldn’t let Huo Zong fall into Qi Shaoze’s trap.
Subconsciously, he glanced towards the study room door, hoping Gu Qingcheng would appear in time to stop Qi Shaoze’s scheme. However, the door remained tightly closed in the distance, showing no intention of opening.
He looked at Huo Sicheng with worry.
Huo Sicheng: “I won’t bet with you.” Qi Shaoze: “I didn’t expect General Huo to be afraid too.”
Huo Sicheng: “You’re not worthy.”
Qi Shaoze’s face stiffened, seemingly surprised by Huo Sicheng’s disregard for him.
“It’s not that I’m not worthy, it’s that you’re afraid to bet with me, General Huo,” he gave himself a way out, “you’re afraid of losing to me and losing face.”
Huo Sicheng: “Believe what you want.”
Qi Shaoze was stung by Huo Sicheng’s words, feeling as if he had thrown a punch into thin air, leaving him frustrated and irritated.
Chu Yu’s lips curled up, finding joy in Qi Shaoze’s discomfort. For Huo Sicheng, Gu Qingcheng was his top concern. People like Qi Shaoze didn’t matter to him at all.
Therefore, Qi Shaoze’s deliberate provocation had no effect on Huo Sicheng’s emotions. The atmosphere in the living room grew cold and tense, with neither Qi Shaoze nor Huo Sicheng speaking, yet an invisible tension hung in the air.
At this moment, inside the study room, Gu Qingcheng had no idea about the events unfolding outside. She had been watching videos for hours and was feeling exhausted due to the accelerated playback.
If she wanted to finish watching the seven-day event, it would take her several more days. Staying at Qi Shaoze’s house for that long was unrealistic as she had many other things to attend to.
Especially considering the things Chu He had said to her at the Taohe Cup red carpet event, she didn’t know what leverage Chu He held over her. Just as she was thinking about Chu He, her phone screen lit up.
Because Huo Sicheng needed rest due to his injury, she had put her phone on silent mode. When the screen lit up, she thought it might be Huo Sicheng finally deciding to contact her, which brought her some joy. However, she was surprised to see that the number was unfamiliar.
After hesitating for a moment, she answered the call.
“Oh, you’re still alive,” came Chu He’s voice from the other end, full of schadenfreude.
Gu Qingcheng had already blocked the phone numbers of Chu He and their group, so she wasn’t surprised that this was an unfamiliar number from Chu
He.
Her tone turned dominant and sharp, “I won’t die even if you want me to!”
Chu He chuckled lightly, “Come back to the Gu family tomorrow. Your dad misses you, and we all want you around. Let’s have a family dinner.”
“You might as well wish for my death!” Gu Qingcheng sneered, “If you have something to say, say it on the phone. I’m not going to the Gu family.”
“Fine.” Chu He sighed, “You stubborn child. Of course, we wouldn’t let you die. I won’t say much more. Just know that you must come to the Gu family for lunch tomorrow. ”
Before Gu Qingcheng could respond, Chu He hung up.
She furrowed her brows, feeling extremely displeased. While Chu He hadn’t threatened her over the phone, hanging up was enough to pressure her into visiting the Gu family tomorrow.
Her mood soured even further. She glanced at Huo Sicheng’s number on her phone, which had “Husband” written as the contact name, intensifying her irritation.
Annoying Huo Sicheng!
She had been away from the villa for so long, and he hadn’t bothered to call or send a single message. Did he think she was dead?
Fuming, she sank back into the couch and resumed watching the videos. If he wouldn’t reach out to her, she wouldn’t reach out to him either. She definitely wouldn’t lower her head to him!
In that moment, the silence in the living room was broken by Qi Shaoze’s deliberate intervention.
“What’s the point of your marriage? Put yourself in her shoes—without love, all you do is hurt each other. What else is left?” Qi Yu strongly disagreed with Qi Shaoze’s words.
In Huo Sicheng and Gu Qingcheng’s marriage, it was Gu Qingcheng who bullied and hurt Huo Sicheng all along. There wasn’t another man in the world as patient and accommodating as Huo Sicheng towards Gu Qingcheng.
Huo Sicheng’s gaze remained fixed on the tightly closed door in the distance, waiting for Gu Qingcheng’s appearance. Qi Shaoze’s questioning gaze held no meaning for him.
Empathy wasn’t easily applied in an intimate relationship. To love someone meant giving them the power to hurt you as well as care for you. Allowing someone into your heart also meant permitting them to wound you deeply.
He loved her in such a way.
However, Qi Shaoze didn’t understand how he and Gu Qingcheng interacted. He saw Huo Sicheng’s indifference as a sign of weakness.
Seeing that Huo Sicheng was ignoring him, Qi Shaoze grew increasingly irritated.
“A rose is precious when cultivated with care.” He spoke up again, “I’ve invested more care into that rose than you have. The rose you hold is just an empty shell; its essence resides within me.”
“You keep talking about being together with her for six years, yet you don’t even know what flowers she likes.” Huo Sicheng’s tone remained calm, “Qingcheng hates roses, but you used roses to describe her.”
Qi Shaoze was taken aback, learning for the first time that Gu Qingcheng disliked roses.
When she won championships, he congratulated her with roses, believing she liked them because roses were a universal symbol of love that every girl would appreciate.
Now, in hindsight, she did accept the roses he gave her, only to promptly give them to other girls. It turned out she disliked roses, and yet he had given her roses every year for her birthday and competitions.
His face felt as though Huo Sicheng had slapped him invisibly, stinging with a burning sensation.
He had been slapped in the face by Huo Sicheng!
His hands clenched into fists involuntarily, and he stared at Huo Sicheng’s eyes, full of unconcealed anger.
“She may not like roses, so what?” He challenged Huo Sicheng defiantly, “Her heart will always belong to me. Even if you have her, you’ll never have her heart in this lifetime.”
Silence reigned in the room.
Qi Shaoze and Huo Sicheng once again fell into an intense silence, their powerful auras clashing invisibly. Time passed swiftly, and the night grew deeper.
Gu Qingcheng, who had been dozing on the couch, woke up at some point. The computer screen was the only source of light in the room. She yawned and checked the time, realizing it was already past 1 am.
Her stomach growled hungrily, and she stood up, unplugging the USB drive and slipping it into her pocket. She absentmindedly glanced at her phone.
“Darn man, not even a single call.” She muttered under her breath, irritated, as she walked towards the door. “Men are all the same. Qi Shaoze is not even concerned that he’s starving me, nevermind calling me in for dinner.” She opened the door and shouted loudly, “Qi Shaoze, Qi… Shao…”
With just one shout of “Qi Shao”, Qi Shaoze turned his head to look at Gu Qingcheng, smiling with a hint of playfulness. His gaze shifted to the frosty-faced Huo Sicheng, and he said loudly, “I’m here. Missed me?”
Gu Qingcheng had blocked the phone numbers of Chu He and her friends, so it wasn’t strange to receive a call from an unfamiliar number associated with Chu He. She retorted casually, “Yeah, I missed you.” I’d like to strangle you, Qi Shaoze, for starving me.
However, her words weren’t even complete when her expression shifted to shock upon seeing Huo Sicheng right in front of her.
Huo Sicheng?
She instinctively looked around.
Yes, this was Qi Shaoze’s house.
But why was Huo Sicheng here?
Huo Sicheng’s handsome face was icy as he gazed at Gu Qingcheng, his eyes carrying a glint of malevolence. His voice was cold and biting as he asked, “Quite the yearning, huh?”
Huo Sicheng’s lips parted slightly, his voice cold to the extreme, “I don’t know if my wife desires Qi Shaoze more, or me..”
