Chapter 72 - 72: Investigating the Case
Last time, Purple Summers asked Aria Jackson to look up the list of everyone on the yacht on the day of the incident.
Since it was a private party, there were only around thirty guests and staff. Sorting through this number of people wasn’t easy, but it was within manageable limits.
“I’ve briefly checked it out,” Aria Jackson sat beside her, in a crisp tone, “I still think Jade Carlson is the most suspect. She must have done it!”
Purple Summers held a bottle of mineral water, tilted her head back, and took a sip, without speaking.
Aria Jackson said, “She wants to get rid of you and replace you, nesting with Nathaniel Summers!”
However, Purple Summers shook her head, whispering, “If it’s just for a man, isn’t it easier for us to divorce? She has been following me for three years, she should know that I can’t stand any immorality. Once I find out about Nathaniel’s relationship with her, I’ll file for divorce without her saying anything. Why resort to murder?”
Aria Jackson was unconvinced. “Perhaps jealousy has clouded her mind. If everyone could resolve conflicts by divorce, there wouldn’t be so many women seeking revenge with bottles of sulfuric acid.”
“I still think there must be another reason…” Purple Summers muttered, her eyes downcast. “If it were really Jade Carlson, she would have to bribe the servant on the boat. But when it comes to murder, the more people who know, the higher the risk of being found out. Jade Carlson could have found other cleverer ways to harm me.”
Aria Jackson thought for a moment and said, “I’ll check the bank statements of all the male servants on the boat recently.”
To hire a killer, money is the bait. If a large amount of money suddenly appears in someone’s bank account, they can track down the real culprit from there.
“No need, I’ve asked a private agency to look into this.”
Purple Summers didn’t want to affect Aria Jackson’s official work or tip off others that Suzanne Saunders’ death was unusual using Aria’s job as a shortcut. For now, she didn’t want too many people to know, which might frighten the snake in the grass.
“Okay, if you find out anything, be sure to let me know.” Aria Jackson suddenly remembered something and told Purple Summers, “By the way, Jade Carlson has been promoted to prosecutor recently.”
“Yes, I know.” Purple Summers told Aria about the recent events in the Summers Family. “Jade Carlson is so eager to please Dylan Summers. I suspect Nathaniel is unwilling to marry her, or… less keen on the idea.”
Aria Jackson sneered, “He wouldn’t dare, unless he wants to be drowned in spit! His wife just died, and he wants to marry his wife’s assistant? Does he think everyone else is stupid?”
“After a while, everyone will only know Jade Carlson as a prosecutor. No one will remember that she used to be my assistant.” Purple Summers sighed softly. “I hope Jade Carlson can marry into the Summers Family. If she harmed me just to marry Nathaniel, she might expose herself after achieving her goal.”
“Enough, don’t think about that dog couple anymore.” Aria Jackson patted her shoulder. “Come on, let’s go eat something.”
Purple Summers nodded, feeling that thinking about it was pointless.
The two came out of the gym and stood by the road waiting for a taxi.
There was a steady flow of traffic on the street, occasionally, a taxi would pass by, all carrying passengers.
Aria Jackson was impatient, grumbling, “My car is in for repairs. It’s so inconvenient to go anywhere without a car.”
Purple Summers smiled, knowing Aria well. She was a reckless driver, often getting into scrapes and collisions, and her car had been wrecked within a year of purchasing.
Just as she was about to tease her friend, a familiar face appeared in the bustling crowd ahead.
Purple Summers’ face changed instantly, and she almost didn’t think about it before dashing off!
Aria Jackson got a shock from Purple Summers and hurriedly chased after her, not understanding the situation.
“What happened?” Aria Jackson caught up with Purple Summers at the street corner, panting heavily, “Why did you suddenly run off?”
“It’s him!” Purple Summers’ eyes widened, still searching around, “It’s the mage who resurrected me! I just saw him!”
